Housing Project
Help us build a Shared Community for Seniors and Young Adults aging out of foster care.
Innovative community concept with right-size multifamily apartments combining intergenerational living for seniors (55+) on fixed incomes and young adults transitioning from foster care, pursuing education provided by Dallas Community College.
-
Emotional and cognitive development: Younger individuals can learn valuable life lessons from seniors, including resilience, empathy and problem-solving skills. Interacting with differeage age groups can contribute to personal growth and the development of emotional intelligence.
-
Enhanced well-being: Living in a diverse community can promote a sense of purpose, belonging and well-being for seniors and younger individuals. Sharing activities, meals and hobbies can create a sense of fulfillment and improve mental health.
-
Knowledge transfer and learning: Older adults can share their expertise, skills and knowledge with younger individuals, while the younger generation can offer insights into technology, current trends and new perspectives. This knowledge exchange can benefit both groups and promote lifelong learning.
In addition to 28 Supportive Housing Units, a 1300 sq.ft. Community Center will serve as a focal point for surrounding neighborhoods. It will offer residents and the community access to nutritional, financial and mental health counseling, volunteer opportunities, service engagements, addiction meetings, health care screenings, community gardens and social events, including bingo. The facility aims to enhance the well-being of both residents and the wider community.
